Candied Rose Petals DIY
Posted on November 30th, 2011Although roses are not my favorite flowers {can you guess which flower is?}, I do love their smell and their large petals that are perfect for candying. Candied rose petals can give your sweet table a glistening magical touch that is so fitting for winter weddings or festive holiday soirees. Here is a simple DIY that you can try. The photography by Eric Wolfinger is gorgeous!
To begin remove the petals from unsprayed roses.
With a soft bristle paintbrush gently coat the petals with egg whites.
Place the petals carefully in a bowl of sugar and cover petals with sugar.
Be sure to completely cover the roses with fine organic sugar.
Leave candied petals on bakers rack to dry.
Use the table to garnish your pastries, cakes, and dessert plates. Of course, use caution when handling raw eggs products.

Crate Inspiration
Posted on November 17th, 2011Whenever I do a post about something rustic, I get an email message or two from friends that say, “I did not know you were into rustic décor?” or “You would design a rustic wedding?” My answer is always, “I am a professional I do it all and yes I do love some rustic elements!” Yes, I am a city girl but living in the south for ten years has definitely exposed me to the lovelier provincial things in life…and one of them is rustic decor.
I was on the hunt for an idea and I came across an amazing one. I am so in love with it that I am trying to think of a way to create a miniature version of it for my own home! It is so charming! This amazing idea comes from Jill Ruth & Co. Find a crate, fill the crate with Spanish moss then fill the spaces with dried flowers…and that’s it! Simple and rustic!
Dried flowers placed in an old Coca Cola bottle crate makes the perfect display for a wedding or even a beautiful accent piece in your home! Love!

{DIY} Vintage Cake Plates
Posted on November 15th, 2011Like many of you, I too love BHLDN however, I am not always a fan of their prices…I am being honest. All of their wedding décor is amazing and I fell in love with these vintage cake plates the minute I saw them.
Until I saw the price! At $68 to $88 a piece I thought there has to be a way to make these at a better price point. So I went on the hunt for a more economical solution and I found one on the blog, Out of Hand {love the concept of a group of women creating and working together!}. I have to say that I actually like their vintage cake plates better! Take a look!
vintage plate
vintage wine glass or glass candlestick
two part epoxy

Mix the epoxy and spread on the base of the glass base and affix to the cake plate. I suggest measuring the plate to find the center. You do not want the yummies falling over because the cake plate is not centered. Apply pressure to the base and let it sit overnight.

How gorgeous and economical, right?

Beautiful right? So glad I came upon this lovely DIY. Please be sure to visit Out of Hand for more fun stuff and check out their shop while you are there!

{ideas & inspiration} Nature’s Candle Cozy
Posted on November 3rd, 2011Sometimes it’s the simplest of ideas that make the best, like this idea I call “nature’s candle cozy”. Colorful autumn leaves wrapped around votives secured with ribbon or raffia makes the perfect accent for an autumn wedding or Thanksgiving tablescape. No need to look further than your local craft store and backyard for a few of the supplies. Pick the brightest red and gold leaves to use. Not only is this simple, it is earth friendly, too. I love that!

{DIY} Lace & Lovely
Posted on October 17th, 2011After a weekend of cleaning, trying to find the right color paint for the new place, waiting online at the Apple store, and nursing a sick pup, I was due for some girly glam. Nothing screams femininity more than lace {and amazing French made perfume!} So this week let us start with this fun and easy DIY that I am definitely going to do once the new office is complete.
This lace inspired DIY is perfect for wedding favors or bridal showers. Stack two or three tiles on top of one another, tie it with a beautiful ribbon, add a beautiful lace thank you tag {find a free printable on Martha Stewart} and voilà! So easy that you do not need instructions. Aren’t they gorgeous?
Step one…
Step two, let dry and your DIY is done!

Pinecones & White Pumpkins – A Simple Holiday DIY
Posted on October 3rd, 2011Hi everyone! I am back and cannot wait to start sharing the lovelies again! It was a very lovely getaway however coming back to a new home that you have not unpacked much of might warrant another vacation. I vow to be done with all the “putting away’” by the end of the week. Now onto some lovely…
I have never been one for conventional Halloween or Thanksgiving décor. I am not a big fan of orange and black, nor am I a fan of all the autumn-esque colors usually associated with autumn holidays. Do not get me wrong, I love lady autumn’s foliage colors but there are times when I want something a bit different and elegant
So when I came across this amazing {and quite easy!} DIY on the super cute blog Shanty 2 Chic , I fell in love. What a simple and chic holiday arrangement! I literally said “How perfect!” when I saw this! I bet you will, too.
Here is how to make it…
1. Visit your local craft store for supplies. You’ll need some pinecones and some fake miniature pumpkins. Pick up a creamy white paint while you are there, you are going to need that, as too.
2. Add to your shopping cart a vase, an unfinished wood pedestal, and glue.
3. Assemble the glass vase to the pedestal to create the look below…
4.Arrange the pinecones and pumpkins, in the vase, add a few branches {I think pussy willows would be perfect for this arrangement!}. Arrange the items in the vase similar to the arrangement below and voilà! You know have a chic and beautiful fall/holiday arrangement to display!
This arrangement can be made on a grander scale with a much larger vase . I don’t know about, you but this is definitely going to be a part of my holiday décor! Love it!

{cakes & sweets} His & Her Initial Wedding Cakes
Posted on June 10th, 2011Couldn’t you imagine these two lovelies as part of a lemon and lilac colored candy buffet table? Flower petals are glued to wire forms to create these pretty perfect initials. Who says you each can’t have your very own cake and eat it, too?
